This column is the radical thoughts of one guy called Lans Omar aka the “Golden Child” - born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Let's do this: After some long battle with election results within the Sierra Leone community in Alberta, Canada, the Sierra Leone Association of Manitoba (SLAA) is inaugurating its new executive members today October 12, 2024.
During election day on Saturday August 10, 2024, Foday Conteh and Martha Kabba, recorded a landslide victory of 261 votes over their opponents with just 30 votes. That result was contested but it ended up Foday Conteh and Martha Kabba became the president-elect and VP-elect respectively. The inauguration will take place tonight at the SLAA Multi-purpose hall, 17218-107 Ave, Edmonton, Canada.
Next stop: The government of Sierra Leone is prepared to launch its much-anticipated national airline, Air Sierra Leone, as announced today, October 12, 2024. The announcement was made after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Sierra Leone and Xejet Aviation Limited, a company based in Lagos. According to the stipulations of the agreement, Xejet is set to manage both regional and international flights from Lungi International Airport in Freetown and will also establish a national airline for the nation.
Switching gears: Wahala within National Grand Coalition (NGC) camp following the suspension of Jesmed Foday Mami Suma, the party’s Acting National Chairman and Leader. Suma was suspended last Saturday, October 5, 2024, by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NGC. Suma was suspended because of his active alliance with the SLPP. Dis nar case oh, lol. Anytime I write about the NGC, I’m bubbling with laughter, the guys aren’t serious t all, just wasting time, money, and resources.
Question: Sierra Leonean magician Baimba Moi Forah, aka LAC, has been conspicuously absent from public appearances over the past few months. Has anyone encountered him recently? His comedy performances have been greatly missed. The dude is a real clown. If you happen to see him, kindly inform him that his audience is eager to see him again.
Finally: The weekend has arrived! I am currently in Toronto, the finest city in Canada, to relax and celebrate Thanksgiving. Accompanying me is my lovely daughter, who is celebrating her 18th birthday in the company of her friends here in Toronto.
