Behind the Scenes with Lans Omar - May 11, 2024.

Hello everyone!

From Winnipeg, Canada, respect to all my fam, fans, and friends!

The weekend vibes are here: Rapper Boss LA in hot water again, Ghana is no longer with the African pavillioin at Folklorama, Samura Kamara missing in action, the U.S. $412 Million investment in electricity in Sierra Leone in the question of the day, plus lots more. You're about to read another neck-breaking edition of “Behind the Scenes". This column is the radical thoughts of one guy called Lans Omar aka the “Golden Child” - born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Let's do this: Sierra Leone’s Peace Ambassador, rapper Boss LA, is in hot water again. The rapper was reportedly arrested following a confrontation with the Mayor of Kenema on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at around 17:30 (CST) at Jembeh, along the Bo- Kenema Highway. His scheduled show was also canceled. The mayor alleged that Boss LA and his fans who were coming from Bo to Kenema to stage a show at the Kenema City Plaza insulted and assaulted him. The mayor also alleged that Boss LA ransacked his vehicle and took away valuable items including fourteen (14) pieces of assorted diamonds and Le.24,610.00. Boss LA was locked up in a tiny cell at the Kenema Police Station. Nar learning process!

Switching gears: Ghana has left the almighty African continent pavilion at the Manitoba’s Folklorama; leaving the only continent pavilion with only Sierra Leone, Nigeria and few other countries. On the Acomi website, Ghana is looking for volunteers to help with its maiden self-owned Folklorama act 2024. Manitoba’s Folklorama is the largest and longest-running multicultural festival of its kind in the world, and Ghana has always been the epicentre of the African continent pavilion. SMH.

Next stop: Dr. Samura Kamara was noticeably absent from last week’s peace meeting with President Julius Bio and the Co-Chairs of the Tripartite Committee. De bra dem nor serious. The meeting was about the Resolution (3) of the Agreement for National Unity. Kamara’s absence was due to some unavoidable circumstances, lies; Samura was just not interested in meeting with the Paopa Boys. Period. Kamara was actually in his hometown of Kamalo, where he was attending the funeral of his younger sister and thereafter went on a drinking spree with his friends. President Maada Bio officially invited Kamara for a peace talk scheduled for Thursday, May 2, 2024, at State House but Kamara was a “no show – no call”. Oona go learn.

Question: Just asking – does any Sierra Leonean in that country know how to efficiently manage U.S. $412 Million for electricity in Sierra Leone? Oona lef me. Again, for the records, electricity was first used in houses in the late 19th century but it’s still a mystery in Sierra Leone. Do I hear a snake rattle?

Finally: Again, the weekend is here! Not sure what I’m doing. I might be hosting the boys again for BBQ at my backyard. Wait a minute, I'll be seeing the Deckers today to convey my condolence and respect to the late Mama Phebian Fudia Paul.

Fellas, my advice for the weekend – if you plan to have some good time and get a drink, you know the rules, right? If you’re drinking, don’t drive – if you’re driving, don’t drink. Have a great weekend! Lonta.

I'm out of here!

Cheers fellas!
The Golden Child.
