Behind the Scenes with Lans Omar - August 31, 2024.

Hello everyone!
From Winnipeg, Canada, respect to all my fam, fans and friends!

The weekend vibes are here: the heat is heating up over SLAA election winner in Edmonton, ECOWAS authorizes 1,200 peacekeeping force for Sierra Leone, Fatima Gucci Bio clarifies that Chief Minister Sengeh is not Sierra Leone’s president, Adebayor in the question of the day, plus lots more. You're about to read another neck-breaking edition of “Behind the Scenes". This column is the radical thoughts of one guy called Lans Omar aka the “Golden Child” - born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Let's do this: Over the past three weeks, Sierra Leoneans in Edmonton, Canada, have been in hot waters over the just concluded Sierra Leone Association of Alberta (SLAA) presidential election results. Foday Conteh and his VP running mate, Martha Yei Caulker M’bayo, won a landslide presidential election. The duo beat contestants Mariatu Turay and her VP running mate with a huge margin of 261 votes for Conteh and Turay only got 30 votes. Two days after the elections, Mariatu Turay who got only 30 votes was sworn in as the new president-elect of SLAA while Conteh was left behind. Dis nor funny at all. So many sides to this story – I was informed that, of the 261 votes for Conteh, only 21 people were paid up members and all of Turay’s 30 votes were all paid up members and, apparently she won. Another side said that it was all election fraud to elect Turay as president. Dis nar war. Anyways, there is another swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Conteh on Saturday September 7th, 2024.

Switching gears: ECOWAS is deploying 1,200 peacekeeping forces to Sierra Leone to stabilize the country following a meeting held by the Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff in Abuja, Nigeria. The meeting focused on the readiness of armed and security forces within the ECOWAS framework. This is part of the operationalization of the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF), specifically the ECOWAS Counter-Terrorism Force (CTForce).  In addition to the Sierra Leone mission, the defense chiefs committed to establishing a 5,000 plus standby force aimed at countering terrorism across the region.

Next stop: Fatima Gucci Bio is telling the people to stop associating her and Chief Minister David Sengeh with the presidency, emphasizing that neither of them is the president of Sierra Leone - President Julius Maada Bio is. Interesting. First Lady said: “Sengeh is not the president of Sierra Leone but the Chief Minister that is working on the mandate of President Bio. I am not the president but the First Lady who is married to the president of this country”. This came up recently that both Gucci Bio and Sengeh have been publicly playing and acting as First Lady and president respectively lately. Dis nor go burn fine pekin oh. Salone nor to serious country.

Question: Where is Adebayor? De bra don cut foot, lol.

Finally: Fellas, the weekend is here! It’s Labour Day long weekend across Canada. Just so you know, the Police Stop-Check will be conducting a routine stop for impaired drivers in Manitoba. If you planned to drink, please drink responsibly. If you’re driving, don’t drink – if you’re drinking, don’t drive.

Have a great long weekend! Lonta.

I'm out of here!

Cheers fellas!
The Golden Child.
