Behind the Scenes with Lans Omar - April 13, 2024

Hello everyone!

From Winnipeg, Canada, respect to all my fam, fans, and friends!

The weekend vibes are here – SALNAM’s Sierra Leone Independence Day celebrations in Winnipeg, Canada, the “Kush Revolution” in Sierra Leone, President Bio declares “no third term ambition” for him, Abu Bakarr Boxx Conteh in the question of the day, plus lots more. You're about to read another neck-breaking edition of “Behind the Scenes". This column is the radical thoughts of one guy called Lans Omar aka the “Golden Child” - born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Let's do this:  The Sierra Leone Nationals Association of Manitoba (SALNAM) is hosting the Sierra Leone’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations in Winnipeg, Canada, with a dinner and dance. This year’s celebrations will take place on Saturday April 27, 2024, at the Jamaican Hall, 1098 Winnipeg Avenue, Winnipeg Canada. The celebrations will start with a meet and greet that will commence at 7:45 pm and the dinner & dance start at 8:50 pm to 1:00 am.

Cover charge for the Sierra Leone Independence celebrations are as follow: Adult - $30.00, kids - 12yrs to 17yrs - $20.00 and kids - 5yrs to 11yrs - $10.00. All proceeds from this venture go directly to the development of the Sierra Leone community in Manitoba, Canada.

Switching gears: The Kush Revolution” is wrecking havoc in Sierra Leone where it is estimated to kill about a dozen people each week and hospitalise thousands all across the country. No one is taking responsibly over this deadly drug, not even the government. Kush is taken mostly by men and women between the ages from 18yrs to 25yrs, and causes people to hallucinate, fall asleep while walking, bang their heads against hard surfaces and some even walk into moving traffic, etc.

Kush is a combination of cannabis, fentanyl, tramadol, formaldehyde, and ground down human bones. The government and other social and medical agencies in the country have tried to get this dangerous drug off the streets but to avail. The government is not taking responsibility, medical society and other agencies are not taking responsibility and the youths are left with the scourge of the “Kush Revolution”. Oona hush ya nar Salone.

Next stop: I’m not sure if this is honest honesty but President Bio has announced that he has no intention of seeking a seven-year term in office, nor will he pursue a third term, case closed. This announcement was made during his address at the Special Presidential DEPAC Meeting convened to review the Sierra Leone’s 1991 constitution. The president declared: “I am not seeking a seven-year term, nor am I considering running for a third term. As I have consistently emphasized, upon leaving my presidency, my aim is to establish laws that will strengthen the democratic future of our nation”. Well, let’s wait and see as the Sierra Leone Constitution is under the review process right now. Salone nor to serious country!

Question: Why is Abu Bakarr Boxx Conteh arrested? Such a gentleman man, in fact, he's coolest Sierra Leonean alive, even cooler that Da Golden Child. Why is he arrested? Why? Now, you you see some of the reasons why I publicly renounced my Sierra Leonean citizenship and will never set my foot in that country. Ona go learn.

Finally: Again, the weekend is here! I’m not doing much at all. I’ll be home chilling and doing some Springs cleaning around the house and throwing some meat on the grill while listening to some Neo-Madinka pop music . If you wanna pass by, guarantee you’ll have a bite and some goodies in the outside freezer.

Fellas, again, I always say this – if you plan to have some good time and get a drink, you know the rules, right? If you’re drinking, don’t drive – if you’re driving, don’t drink. Have a great weekend! Lonta.

I'm out of here!

Cheers fellas!

The Golden Child.
